ANTHRO's ad policy

If you’d like to advertise with Anthro, you’ve got two options: Buy from us, or go through our ad broker, Project Wonderful. When you deal with Anthro directly, you’re spending a known amount of cash to purchase ad coverage in two-month blocks; if you use Project Wonderful, you’re bidding in an auction for as many or as few days of ad coverage as you like.

Anthro being a webzine for furdom, we’ll accept ads for pretty much anything that’s of interest to a large percentage of our readership. ‘Pretty much anything’ includes:

  • Furry conventions
  • Furry comics/novels/art/etc
  • Commissions for furry art/stories/etc
  • Fursuit manufacture/repair/etc
  • Whatever else you can make a decent case for -- let us know

With respect to the components of the ad itself, Anthro will accept graphics in any file format that Photoshop and/or Graphic Convertor can work with. However, note that we will convert every graphic image to either JPEG or GIF format, depending on which one makes the image look better, before we upload it to the Anthro website. If you have religious objections to the GIF file format, say so and we’ll convert your ‘non-standard’ image to JPEG and be done with it.
Anthro will gladly accept animated GIF files. We’ll also accept Flash and/or Shockwave; if it’s okay with you that whichever percentage of Anthro’s readers will be unable to see your ad (because they haven’t got the right version of the right software installed on their machine), it’s okay with us, too. However: In order to conserve bandwidth, no Anthro ad can be larger than 50 kilobytes. We will use whatever technical tricks we deem necessary in order to reduce the filesize of an overly large ad, and if it’s still too big, we’ll reject the ad.

For each issue in which an ad appears, the right-edge ‘pane’ of the zine’s window will contain a clickable link to a webpage of your choice. This link can be pure text or a graphic image, as you choose, and it will be visible to Anthro’s readers at all times. If you want this link to point to a page in Anthro, the pointed-to page will show up inside Anthro’s main display ‘pane’; if you’d rather it point to a page somewhere on the web, the pointed-to page will show up in a fresh new window unto itself. It’s your choice—either way is fine by us.
Anthro reserves the right to inflict technical adjustments (i.e., things like reducing the file size or improving the image quality) on the graphic components of any ad which has graphic components.

If you wish to create the ad (which, again, is a clickable link) yourself, feel free; if not, we’ll be happy to create the ad for you (for a small charge). Likewise, your ad can be as large or small as you like, within reasonable limits, so you can choose whichever size of ad best suits your budget. And finally, you can control your ad’s exposure by paying for as many or as few issues’ appearances as you like.
All prices are quoted in US dollars. When you buy an ad, the price is the sum of:

1.

Creation fee — $30 (if we create the ad for you) or $0 (if you do it yourself)

2.

Setup fee — All Anthro advertisements appear in the zine window’s right-edge ‘pane’; the setup fee depends on how much of that ‘pane’ you want your ad to occupy. Setup fee includes appearance in 1 (one) issue of Anthro.

a.

Full width: These ads occupy the entire horizontal span of the ad space.

Once you’ve paid for a given ad, you can re-use it whenever you like, after as long a gap as you like. Since each such re-used ad will obviously have appeared in at least one previous issue of Anthro, the per-issue fee applies, but the creation and/or setup fees will not have to be paid a second time. If a re-used ad needs to be tweaked a little—as, for instance, a ‘GeneriCon 2004 ad that should be changed to read ‘GeneriCon 2005—it’s on the house; Anthro will do that sort of minor alteration gratis. However, if you want to inflict major changes on a re-used ad, there may be a $10 editing charge at Anthro's discretion. Either way, the per-issue (length of appearance) fee is applicable.

Cover date Deadline    Anthro expects to be paid on or before the deadline of the issue in which the ad will appear. If we don’t have the cash in hand by the 20th of the appropriate month, the advertisement won’t appear in that issue; it will, instead, appear in the first available issue after we have the cash in hand.
